Sep 3, 2004
Authentidate International, AG, a subsidiary of Authentidate Holding Corp. (Nasdaq: ADAT) announced today that Kodak GmbH, Germany, has integrated Authentidate's scan signature technology into its capture software. The scan signature technology allows users to scan documents and applies a signature to the scanned document which is compliant with the German Signature Law and the European Union Signature Directive.
The agreement with Kodak gains another well known, worldwide scan service provider to Authentidate's growing list of partners. Kodak's capture software is used and distributed through a large network of service providers that offers Kodak's capture software to their clients, in addition to being used directly by a broad range of end users.
While financial terms weren't disclosed, Authentidate will generate revenue through transaction fees.
A practical application of this integration is seen in Germany's compulsory health insurance industry. Both Authentidate and Kodak's network of service providers have a substantial clientele in Germany's compulsory health insurance sector. Under the German Signature Act, these customers, as well as their service providers, are obligated to exclusively use signatures pursuant to the Signature Act in high-volume document recording by August 2004 if the paper documents are being destroyed. Due to the integration of Authentidate's signature technology into Kodak's capture software, these users are able to satisfy these current requirements immediately. Authentidate's signature software has been preinstalled in the Kodak capture software and must only be activated by the user.
Through qualified personal signatures, the change in media from paper to electronic format, is documented with legal certainty under German law. Thus, the generated electronic data, such as TIFF files, can no longer be manipulated without detection. Authentidate's signature technology is designed to function without altering any underlying electronic data, which permits the electronic data to be further processed as usual. Accordingly, downstream processes, such as OCR tools and workflows, may be executed without being affected by the application of the digital signatures.
Authentidate's signature technologies are already in use in a variety of practical projects, in particular in the sector of the compulsory health insurance funds. Thus, both Kodak's service providers and their customers are able to immediately rely on tested technologies that are readily available.
"We are glad that in Authentidate we have found a competent partner for the integration of signatures. We were convinced by the professional competence and the broad spectrum of signature solutions, which enable us to extend a variety of our applications with technologies from a single provider. Decisive was furthermore the large number of successfully implemented practical projects", says Gunter Wittlinger, Sales and Marketing Manager, Document Products and Services, Kodak GmbH.
"We are glad that with Kodak another well known service provider has joined our partner-signature network. More and more users may thus use tested signature technologies," adds Marc T. Willems, Member of the Board of the Authentidate International AG.
Kodak will present the new solution at the DMS Expo from Sept. 7 to 9, 2004 in Essen.
